Power Addiction.

With the sad death of ,Van Nguyen, confirmed, it seems an appropriate time to talk of Singapore ,democracy, drugs and what might be gained from this senseless killing. No one enjoys the harm that comes from heroin addiction. Or, any other drug for that matter. Many around the blogs have hailed Singapore as the 'model of a modern major -general', in cracking down on this substance. They have a pretty good reputation on 'chewing gum', repression with large fines.

'Joy' on talkback, praised the place as "clean and neat" and lamented the lack of discipline amongst our young. Another great comment on an unnamed blog, spoke of Singapore as a "democratic society", and while she dislikes capital punishment ,she accepts their right to enforce their laws.

Power is a 'drug' and has not yet been prohibited. As long as it used with some sense of responsibility, we would all be happy. See here, for more info, on the wonders of a pseudo democracy http://www.singapore-window.org/804caq9.htm

Thanks for your comment, weekbyweek. We have free trade agreement with Singapore. Maybe you missed it.

Well.. I dunno man, but two can play at this boycotting game, and them boycotting us would affect us much more than we would them.

With almost 50,000 full-fee paying S'poreans here, and average undergrad fees and expenses amounting to $48,000 per pax, that's like $2.4B to the economy man.. Or at least that's what my S'porean friend told me ages ago.

mm, I wonder what the effect would be. IF in a war..Singapore owned the Telecommunications..

Noni,

Isn't it time we put morals and principles over economics occasionally? I like to think we had some of those qualities once upon a time in this country.

It sickens me that everything seems to be reduced to dollars and cents.

Davo,

Exactly ... particularly the communications satellites through which our diplomatic and military traffic flows.

The way has been opened. Telstra is now 'up for grabs'.

(tho personally think that the share price has been driven down in preparation for a yank takeover)

Davo, please don't tell me you have no trust in the 'three amigos'?

In a 'hands off',kind of way,the board/bored of Telstra strove to look after Mum's and Dad's, by appointing the best that America could provide, with very large payments, for their extreme wisdom.

The fact that the Australian public still own 51%,of the company, should be avoided at all costs. Let's face it, the 'liberal' party, knows whats best, for all of us, and we are going to have to get used to it!

Do you have room on the boat for 3?

Apology,"Noni",your point was a good one.

Sorry, not to have invited you in for more of a say. Sounds like a lot of money that your friend had to pay. Reckon that education should be 'free' and when you have to pay for it, it is more likely 'propaganda'.
